The ACM 2008 Symposium on “Computer Human Interaction for Management of Information Technology” (http://www.chimit08.org/) is soliciting proposals for “Experience Reports” …
CHIMIT 2008 Experience Reports
All system administrators are invited to submit proposals for Experience Reports to be presented at the 2008 ACM Computer Human Interaction for Management of IT Conference being held Nov. 14-15 in San Diego (the Friday/Saturday of LISA week). See www.chimit08.org for details about the conference.
The Experience Report sessions are designed to share insights from actual practice. Submitters of accepted proposals will present their experiences in a special Experience Report Session, allowing them to share and discuss their experience with all symposium participants. This session is expected to be highly interactive. Each presentation will last 30 minutes, including questions and answers and discussion.
Experience Reports are non-archival: while experience report proposals will not be published in the Symposium Proceedings and ACM Digital Library, they will be available on the Symposium web site, prior to the symposium start date.
Preparation Guidelines
Please submit a 1-2 paragraph summary of an experience you can share from the practice of IT management, involving some kind of interface between people and technology.
Additionally, please submit brief answers to all of the following questions:
* When did the experience take place?
* What was your personal role in the experience?
* How many people were involved in or affected by the experience?
* What was the financial or business impact of the experience?
* What do you think is the top insight about human interfaces for IT
management from the experience?
* What changes for you or your organization were motivated by this
and/or similar experiences?
We are interested in answers to these questions to evaluate the overall contribution to the symposium of a discussion of the experience, not because we are seeking only reports on major events or deep insights. A problem successfully solved by a couple of sysadmins that illustrates some issue of UI in management of a complex network is as relevant as a case study of a failure with major impact but a simple root.
The actual conference presentations of accepted reports can include more details and discussion than is included in the brief summary and answers submitted. We want to encourage informal storytelling with lots of interaction during the session.
Submission
Experience report proposals should be e-mailed to the Program Co-Chairs: programchairs@chimit08.org. Only PDF versions of proposals are accepted. All submissions must be received by the chairs by 5:00pm Pacific Time on July 14, 2008. Submissions received after this date/time will not be considered.
All submissions will be acknowledged by e-mail.
Authors will be notified on August 18, 2008.
All questions regarding reports should be directed to Program Co-Chairs, programchairs@chimit08.org.
